INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
Larceny / Simple Assault (1213 Duck Road “Wee Winks Market”)
An alcohol sale was refused to a customer who lacked proper identification. The customer left, but returned a short while later. The 24-year-old male walked to the cooler, removed an 18-pack of beer, threw money on the front counter, and left the store with the beer. A clerk followed the suspect and the two became involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot. The assault was not witnessed by law enforcement, so both parties were instructed on how to pursue criminal charges against one another. The suspect was issued a citation for larceny and released.
Simple Assault (1264 Duck Road “Sunset Grille and Raw Bar”)
An intoxicated 27-year-old male patron took issue with the bartender when the patron was given his bar tab. The suspect struck the bartender with a bar stool. When law enforcement arrived the suspect has already left the scene. After viewing video of the incident a warrant was obtained charging the suspect with simple assault. The suspect was arrested and held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Larceny (1216 Duck Road “Kitty Hawk Surf Company”)
A customer reported seeing a male and female suspect placing garments in a bag. Before store personnel could confront the pair, they left the scene in a small blue vehicle. Law enforcement was unable to locate the suspects. Store personnel were unable to determine what the suspects took. Per the manager’s wishes, no report was filed.
Underage drinking (132 Wampum Drive)
Large group of 16-19 year olds (approximately 15) staying at 132 Wampum Drive. Several gallons of liquor of all kinds and several cases of beer were dumped out. Citations were issued for underage drinking, contributing to a minor, possession under ½ ounce and paraphernalia. The mother of one of the juveniles rented the house as part of beach week for the kids and then returned to Virginia. The rental company was contacted by Officer.
