  • Officers issued 6 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 


  • 190 business checks were made.No unsecured doors were found.
  • 2 extra patrols were requested by an out-of-town property owner this week.   


  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On August 8, 2022, officers responded to a report of a stolen golf cart. The reporting party stated that the golf cart was taken on the night of August 6, 2022, at an unknown time. A be on the lookout for the missing golf cart was issued.

  • Schedule Drug Violation (Duck Road)

On August 8, 2022, officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. An odor of Marijuana was detected upon approaching the vehicle. A search was conducted revealing marijuana and cocaine in the vehicle. 19-year-old Emma Howell, of Powells Point, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule II narcotic. She was held at Dare County Detention Center.

  • Suspicious Condition / DWI Arrest (Ocean Bay Boulevard)

On August 9, 2022, officers responded to a report of a vehicle backed into a residence under construction. Officers found that the vehicle had backed over construction materials and was stuck. The investigation revealed that the driver, 34-year-old Johnathon Edgar, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, was intoxicated. The suspect was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. He was held at Dare County Detention Center in leu of a $4,000.00 bond.

  • Found Property (Duck Road)

On August 13, 2022, officers responded to a report of a handgun being found by new renters coming into the property. After officers picked up the handgun, they were able to locate the owner and get the handgun returned.

  • Shoplifting (Duck Road)

On August 13, 2022, a clothing store reported that two females with large bags had taken items from the store. Store employees had retrieved some property, but they were not sure they got all the stolen property back. Officers located the subjects and verified that all property was returned. The business owner did not wish to press charges but requested the subjects be trespassed. The suspects were released to the custody of their parents.

  • Mutual Aid / Dispute (4th Avenue / Duck Road)

On August 14, 2022, Duck officers responded to assist Southern Shores Police Department with a dispute in progress. After an argument with her boyfriend, the caller was kicked out of the car and her boyfriend left with her property. The vehicle was located, and the female’s property was returned. Officers stood by with the female until she was picked up by a taxi.
