TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 21 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 176 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • 1 extra patrol was requested by an out-of-town property owner this week.   

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Dispute (Duck Road)

On August 22, 2022, a business owner reported a dispute between she and a customer after the customer was asked to have an adult present with her children while the children were in the business. The parties were separated, and the customer left the store. The customer was asked not to return to the store.

  • Assist EMS (Address Redacted)

On August 23, 2022, officers responded to assist EMS with a subject being aggressive with family due to an altered mental state. Officers secured the scene and accompanied the patient in the ambulance to ensure the patient and EMS personnel arrived safely at the Outer Banks Hospital. 

  • Extortion/Blackmail (Quail Way)

On August 24, 2022, a caller reported being contacted on social media by an unknown subject who claimed to be in possession of personal information about the victim. The suspect threatened to send the personal information to the victim’s friends unless the victim purchased $300 in gift cards and provided the suspect with the card numbers. The victim purchased the gift cards and electronically transmitted the card numbers to the suspect, prior to reporting the incident.  The suspect continued to demand more money from the victim. It is believed the victims cell phone was compromised, and personal information extracted, through a recently announced security flaw in the phones operating software.    

  • Arrest (Duck Road)

On August 27, 2022, a Currituck County Sheriff’s Deputy on route to Corolla, contacted a Duck officer to report observing a vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic in Duck.  The Duck officer requested mutual aid from the Deputy, so the suspect vehicle could be immediately stopped.  Duck officers responded to the location of the traffic stop, and after investigating, found the driver to be intoxicated. 46-year-old Michael Wilson of Marietta, GA was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. He was held at Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $2,000.00 secured bond.

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • Duck Road/Scarborough Lane

On August 28, 2022, a two-vehicle rear-end collision occurred. One vehicle stopped for pedestrians in the crosswalk and the second vehicle ran into the first vehicle. 

  • Duck Road/Jay Crest Road

On August 23, 2022, a three-vehicle rear-end collision occurred. Two vehicles were stopped on Duck Road when the third vehicle struck the rear of the last vehicle and pushed it into the vehicle in front of it.

  • Duck Road/Jay Crest Road

On August 24, 2022, a three vehicle rear-end collision occurred. Two vehicles were stopped on Duck Road in heavy traffic when the third vehicle struck the rear of the last vehicle and pushed into the vehicle in front of it.

  • Duck Road/Schooner Ridge Road

On August 27, 2022, a hit and run occurred. A vehicle backing out of a parking spot hit a parked vehicle and left the scene. The driver of the suspect vehicle was located in Corolla and returned to the scene. The suspect was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.
