TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 8 traffic enforcement actions during the week.

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 125 business checks were made. 1 unsecured door was found.
  • 10 extra patrol checks were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Concealed Handgun (Duck Road)

Officers stopped a vehicle for expired registration. During the traffic stop, it was found that the driver had a concealed handgun in the glove compartment and did not possess a concealed carry permit. 25-year-old Tararius Barnes of Winterville, NC was cited for the violation and released.

  • Flee to Elude Arrest (Duck Road/East Dogwood Trail)

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving at low speeds. Officers followed the vehicle with emergency equipment activated through Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk and into Currituck where Currituck County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit. Currituck County Deputies were able to use stop sticks to stop the vehicle. Following the stop both the driver and passenger were arrested for drug charges. Duck Police obtained an arrest warrant for the driver, 31-year-old Zachary Marion of Waynesboro City, Virginia.

  • B&E Prior (Sea Colony Drive)

While assisting Duck Fire Department investigating the smell of smoke in a neighboring condo, Officers were notified of a door standing open that appeared to have been kicked in. Officers cleared the condo and did not find anyone inside. It did not appear that anything in the condo was missing or had been gone through. Officers collected evidence and secured the door. Officers notified the property manager who provided the owner’s contact information, and they were notified as well. This is an active investigation.
