The public is invited to attend an Opening Reception on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on display at Duck Town Hall, 1200 Duck Road, as part of the town’s Rotating Art Show series. The upcoming show, Thompson/Van Gieson Exhibit, will feature the work of local artists Carole Thompson and Susan Van Gieson who will be exhibiting paintings in the mediums of oil and acrylics. The Thompson/Van Gieson Exhibit will run through January 2016. This series will begin on Thursday, November 5, 2015, and can be viewed during Town Administrative Office Hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Approximately 30 years ago, Carole Thompson and Susan Van Gieson first came into contact with each other during their time in the Art Therapy graduate program at George Washington University. Both were devoted to exploring the connection of art and emotion, and both were employed in the Washington D.C. area as art therapists. They had no contact after their time together at graduate school, except at the occasional conference and a quick “hello”.
“What a surprise when we rediscovered each other after joining the Kill Devil Hills Co-Op Gallery. The nagging feeling that we knew each other from the past was finally resolved. It is with joy that we can display our work together and continue our friendship through our art,” explains Thompson on her relationship with Van Gieson.
We invite you to experience the work of these two reconnected artists who will bring their paintings to the Town of Duck as part of the Rotating Art Show series. Visit the Rotating Art Shows page for the schedule of future shows and details on past shows.
