The Duck Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. The DVFD has come a long way since its founding in 1982. It is a combined department under Chief Donna Black consisting of five career staff members and 29 volunteers who respond to an average of 450 emergency calls a year. As part of the celebration, there will be an exhibit featuring photographs and memorabilia from the Fire Department over the last 30 years. The exhibit will be located in the Duck Town Hall starting Monday, July 8, 2012 and will remain up until the end of July. The Town Hall is located at 1200 Duck Road and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibit will also be open for viewing during all events at the Duck Town Park.
In addition to the exhibit, as part of our Summer Music Series there will be a community celebration on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. on the Town Green. The celebration will feature music from Summer Music Series and Duck Jazz Festival veterans, The Fuzz Band. The Hampton Roads natives play a variety of pop, funk, and hip-hop. Cupcakes will be served and Duck Volunteer Fire Department 30th Anniversary merchandise will be for sale. Come out and support your local firefighters!
