The Town of Duck is now seeking entries for the 11th Annual 4th of July Parade. This year’s parade will take place on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. and is immediately followed by the Community Celebration at Duck Town Park. The 4th of July Parade is not held on weekend days to avoid traffic conflicts during the changeover of rental properties.
The traditional one-mile parade route begins at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane. The route follows Scarborough Lane east toward the ocean, turns left onto Ocean Way, and loops back to head west on Christopher Drive, and ends at Pamela Court. No part of the parade takes place on Duck Road (NC 12). Judging of parade entries will take place at 111 Scarborough Lane in front of Advice 5¢ Bed & Breakfast. Immediately after the parade, join us in the Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road, for live music from Just Playn’ Dixieland, cold refreshments, and the awarding of parade trophies. Award categories are: Mayor’s Award, Spirit Award, Best Business Entry, Best Community Group.
All floats, local business entries, moving vehicles, community groups and Duck subdivisions, and groups of walkers are required to register to participate in our parade. Registration is open until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Monday, June 22, 2015. Each year, a group “Children on Bikes & Foot” encourages children over the age of eight to participate, and Outer Barks coordinates a group of canine parade walkers. Children and dog owners who wish to be a part of these group do not need to register. Children should be accompanied by an adult, and applicable parade guidelines must be followed. The Parade Registration packet, which includes information, guidelines, and the entry form, can be found on the 4th of July page on townofduck.com. Hard copies are also available at Duck Town Hall, 1200 Duck Road. Please direct questions to email@example.com or 252.255.1234.
