Winged Horses of the Outer Banks | Rescheduled for October 3

Due to inclement weather, the Town of Duck’s celebration of the iconic Outer Banks winged horses has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, at 6:00 PM.

The legendary winged horses that have graced the Outer Banks for over two decades are soaring back into the spotlight! Join the Town of Duck for a night of nostalgia, history, and community spirit with a mini-documentary and unveiling of the new Town Park horse statue.

“Winged Horses of the Outer Banks”, a documentary, funded by CurrentTV and produced by Baldwin Video Productions, will delve into the inspiring story behind the winged horse statues. It will showcase the journey of the Winged Horse Extravaganza – a project launched in 2002 to commemorate the 2003 Centennial of Flight in Kitty Hawk. Witness the project’s impact on the community and its role in preserving this beloved symbol of the Outer Banks.

Following the premiere, witness the grand unveiling and introduction of the new horse statue in the Duck Town Park. Hear firsthand accounts from special guest speakers who were instrumental in bringing these majestic creatures to life and meet Riptide, a stallion rescued by the Corolla Wild Horse Fund.

This unforgettable evening celebrating the winged horses that will continue to capture hearts for many years to come is free and open to the public.

The Winged Horse Extravaganza was a project initiated by The Outer Banks Press in 2002 featuring 99 life-size fiberglass horses adorned with aluminum aircraft wings. The horses were sponsored by individuals and businesses who commissioned artists to create one-of-a-kind designs and can be found around various locations in Dare County.

Those unable to attend the premiere can watch the documentary later on CurrentTV’s YouTube channel, which can be accessed by visiting YouTube.com/CurrentTVOBX.

CurrentTV, a collaboration among multiple local entities in Dare County, North Carolina, provides high-quality informational programming through its Government and Education channels. More information about CurrentTV can be found at CurrentTV.org or through Charter Cable channel 191.
