TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 29 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 180 business checks were made. 1 unsecure door was found.
  • 1 extra patrol was requested by out-of-town property owner this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Dispute (Dune Road)

On April 28, 2023, officer were summoned after two neighbors had a dispute about vegetation clearing and where to place cut vegetation.  Officers assisted the neighbors in resolving their dispute.

  • Mutual Aid (Thirteenth Avenue)

On April 28, 2023, officers from the Southern Shores Police Department requested assistance from Duck Officers after responding to a call involving a large group of young adults creating a disturbance.  Duck Officers maintained scene safety while Southern Shores Officers resolved the matter.

  • Assist Person (Snipe Court)

On April 28, 2023, officers were called to the scene after a homeowner tripped while trying to get into their home.  Officers and Dare County EMS were able to get the subject into their residence and tend to the homeowner’s minor injury.

  • Narcotics Violation (Duck Road)

On April 29, 2023, a security guard contacted officers after receiving a report of the smell of marijuana coming from a condo unit.  Officers arrived and investigated the complaint.  No charges were filed. 

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • Suspected Driving While Impaired (Duck Road / Quail Way)

On April 24, 2023, the driver of a small passenger vehicle lost control of her vehicle and drifted off the right side of Duck Road.  The vehicle  struck several posts alongside a driveway and a mailbox before coming to rest in the vegetation.  The driver was transported from the scene by Dare County EMS. The investigating officers discovered illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  An arrest warrant was obtained charging the driver, 67 year old Karen Willis of Corolla, North Carolina, with felony possession of a schedule VI narcotic.  Officers were awaiting toxicology results when they were notified that the driver succumbed to her injuries.
