The Town of Duck will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 6 at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the sidewalk and bike lane along the east side of Duck Road (NC 12). Funded in part by the Dare County Tourism Board, this portion is the first of three phases in the Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan within the town. The complete plan outlines recommended infrastructure improvements, project costs, safety policies, and education programs. The Town is pleased to unveil these pedestrian improvements that complement the Duck Trail, Town Park, and Soundside Boardwalk.
A recent study by the NC State University Institute for Transportation Research and Education studied the economic contribution of the trail system in Duck along with three other trail systems across the state. Survey data collected in Duck in 2016 estimates that pedestrians and bicyclists generate up to $6.9 million in sales revenue and $2,000 in healthcare cost savings per year, highlighting the importance of these facilities in our community.
Comments by Mayor Don Kingston, Town Manager Chris Layton, and invited guests will take place on the Town Green at 6:00 p.m. The ribbon cutting is planned immediately afterward on the sidewalk across the street from Town Hall.
