The Town of Duck Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Patrol Officer. Successful candidates must possess knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures, as well as strong analytical, leadership, and administrative skills; excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to deal professionally, courteously and fairly with the public; ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances; proficiency in the use of firearms and operation of police vehicles; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public.
In addition, the successful candidate will possess problem-solving skills and considerable knowledge not only within traditional law enforcement areas, but also in a broad range public service matters, and will be able to use these skills to make the right decisions based not only on the law, but the intent of the law as it relates to our mission and goals both short and long term.
The successful candidate will be one who understands and embraces the holistic nature of our Town Government and its dedicated professionals in delivering superior performance in all facets of public service. The selected candidate will work in our beautiful oceanfront community with a year-round population of 522 and a summer population of approximately 25,000. Identifying and addressing the unique needs of both our residents and visitors is a challenge that the successful candidate will be able to address with innovation and dauntless enthusiasm.

The salary range for this position is $35,507 to $55,035, along with a competitive benefits package. You must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 21 years of age, possess a NC BLET or certification from a reciprocal state, possess a valid driver’s license, and have vision correctable to 20/20. The selection process includes an oral interview, drug screening test, background investigation, medical evaluation, and psychological test.
