The past week saw plenty of activity as the contractors seek to complete the first phase of pedestrian improvements along the east side of Duck Road (N.C. Highway 12). Barnhill Contracting reconstructed a portion of the intersection at Duck Ridge Village Court with concrete to address stormwater drainage issues in the area of the crosswalk. Liquid Lawns sprayed hydroseed to stabilize the graded banks on the eastern side of the new sidewalk.
American Road Markings (ARM) completed installation of new crosswalk signs, eradicated former crosswalk markings, and installed new crosswalk markings for approximately half of the project. Weather permitting, ARM plans to complete the crosswalk markings on Monday, May 14th. Millstone Marine will be constructing a new pedestrian ramp to line up with the new crosswalk markings and median between the post office and Sunset Grille.
Coinjock Farms Landscaping installed many of the plants in the landscape beds of the gateway medians and between the new sidewalk and shoulder of Duck Road. Weather permitting, Initial plantings are scheduled for completion on Monday, May 14th. Following delivery of nearly 1,300 Little Bluestem plants when they become available in early June, Coinjock Farms will be able to complete the landscaping project.
The Town is awaiting the arrival of bike lane markings to be installed in the northbound shoulder of Duck Road to direct bike riders on the proper direction of travel.
A final walk-through of the project by VHB is scheduled for Friday, May 18th.
Although the sidewalk itself is complete and may be used, please be aware that the project area is still an active construction site. Whether walking, biking, or driving, please respect the workmen and equipment and travel safely as you pass through the construction area.
