Employment Opportunity | Firefighter/EMT or Master Firefighter/EMT

The Town of Duck is seeking to fill the position of Firefighter/EMT or Master Firefighter/EMT and seeking a qualified and energetic individual to join our dedicated staff, who is committed to maintaining high professional standards in support of the Town’s core values of Service, Ownership, Accountability, and Respect (SOAR). Those individuals meeting minimum requirements and selected for the process will be scheduled for a skills evaluation and an interview. 

Responsibilities
An employee in this class is responsible for performing all functions and services of firefighting and emergency medical rescue. Work also involves assisting in daily operations, equipment, and station maintenance; assist with storm/disaster events; attend and participate in trainings; assist with pre-incident planning and fire safety inspections; ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained; the performance of public relations activities; as well as other activities as requested. The employee work schedule is a 24/48 shift to include holidays and weekends.

Minimum Education
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency, required.

Experience
Minimum one to three years of experience in fire science, fire tactics, emergency response, or public safety work preferred.

Special Requirements

  • North Carolina Class B driver’s license required within 6 months of employment.
  • NC certification as Level II Firefighter, required. Will accept out of state certifications if NC reciprocity is obtained within 6 months. 
  • NC certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic), required. Will accept out of state certification if reciprocity is obtained within 6 months.
  • Ability to complete Fire Department-approved Driver Operator Program.

Storm Duties
This position is classified as essential personnel and must maintain duty assignment in adverse conditions.

Salary will be based upon experience, education, and certifications held with a minimum salary in the hiring range of $52,322
