The Town of Duck will hold a public meeting regarding a Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan Study on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Town Meeting Hall located at 1200 Duck Road.
The Town of Duck has teamed up with Vanasse, Hangen, Brustlin, Inc. (VHB), a planning, design, engineering, and consulting group to help refine the overall pedestrian experience in the Town. As a part of this meeting, attendees will participate in an interactive survey and will have the opportunity to provide input that will shape the direction of the plan.
The Duck Town Council, with community input and support, articulated a vision for pedestrian transportation in its 2022 Vision Statement, adopted in late 2012 and available for review here. The Town of Duck is now embarking on its first comprehensive pedestrian plan. This will be a town-wide plan which will focus on infrastructure improvements as well as safety and education programs. A specific focus will be the village center, which has high pedestrian and bicycle usage, and is served by the Duck Trail which consists of a wide shoulder on each side of NC 12. The Town has formed a steering committee of business owners, residents, community planners and elected officials to guide the planning process. This project is being conducted in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Division, which will play a vital role in project development and implementation.
