This exhibit features three local photographers: Jackie Orsulak, Lynne Alterman, and Pat Draisey.
Prior to moving to the Outer Banks, Jackie Orsulak was a mathematician for the US Navy before deciding to stay at home to raise her children. It was during this time that her love of art really took hold. After her husband’s passing, Jackie moved to the Outer Banks and would frequently drive on highway 64 to visit her grandchildren in Raleigh. Intrigued by the “bear crossing” signs she detoured into the refuge to take a closer look. This was the turn that changed her life. As time passed, she continued to purchase bigger and better equipment and has traveled the world in pursuit of capturing the beauty that is nature’s wildlife in their natural environments.
Lynne Alterman has been an avid nature photographer for approximately 16 years. After retiring in 2005, she and husband Steve relocated from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C, to their beach house in Duck. They both enjoy traveling to various locations for pleasure and for photography workshops. Some favorite locations, beyond the Outer Banks, are Hawaii and the American West. She has previously exhibited in the Frank Stick Show, The Mollie Fearing Show, at the Dare County Arts Council, and Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery. She is an active member of the CNPA, the Carolinas Nature Photography Association, Outer Banks Chapter.
Pat Draisey is a local Nature and Wildlife Photographer. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to the Outer Banks three years ago after vacationing in Duck for 20 years. Pat has always enjoyed photography, mainly photographing scenery. Once in the Outer Banks she began learning and photographing the different birds and other wildlife. Pat is a member of the Carolinas Nature Photography Association and currently lives in Manteo, NC.
The Town of Duck Wall Décor Committee established a series of Rotating Art Shows to display the works of local artists and organizations. The artwork is on display at Duck Town Hall in the First Floor Conference Room. Each show is scheduled to run for three months at a time and is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to an opening reception for each show.
