Abstract Paintings by Jill Block

Jill Block is a native of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Her parents were both talented artists and it was there at home where she learned to love art at a very young age. She is a self taught painter and loves contemporary abstract art. In particular, she enjoys painting large pieces. Her influences include: Willem De Kooning, Henri Matisse, Picasso, and Helen Frankenthaler.

“I am a painter. I love abstract paintings. They are what I have always been drawn to and so that’s what I create. I use mainly canvas and wood panel. I normally don’t have a particular image in mind that I want to paint. I put my music on and begin. Whatever comes about is, I guess, what it should be. It’s always exciting to see what it becomes…sometimes I love it and sometimes I don’t. I have found that sometimes the ones that I don’t particularly love are the ones that some of my clients fall in love with. You have to let the people decide what they think and feel about.”- Jill Block
