Rotating Art Show

The next exhibit in the Town of Duck Rotating Art Show is “Women of the Outer Banks Small Group Show”. This exhibit will be open Monday Through Friday (excluding holidays) from 9:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room of the Town Hall. This show will be on display from Friday, August 2-Wednesday, October 23, 2024
A free opening reception will take place on Wednesday, August 7 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Come meet the artists and speak to them about their work.
Kate Lawrence– creates acrylic paintings of the local landscapes and landmarks. Through combining vibrant colors, she strives to create a balance between how the subject looks, and how it feels. She hopes to create artwork that resonates with others and reminds them of the comforts of the Outer Banks.
Kate loves spending time with her family, being outdoors, beachcombing, and observing wildlife. She found herself endlessly inspired by the natural beauty of the Outer Banks and created Endless OBX in 2016.
Erin Moore– Originally a logo and brand designer, has found her true home and creative inspiration in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Frequent childhood vacations to the area inspired her to settle in Kitty Hawk after graduating from James Madison University’s School for Media Arts & Design and now, she is raising her family here.
Erin will be featuring her unique sun prints, known as cyanotypes. These prints are creatd using natural objects found on the beaches and around Pamlico Sound. The process involves painting chemicals onto a surface and placing objects on top. When exposed to sunlight, the areas with objects remain white while the exposed areas turn blue. After exposure, the prints are rinsed with ocean salt water to stop the reaction, resulting in one-of-a-kind blue and white images that reflect the essence of the Outer Banks.
Peggy Moorse– is a painter investigating the fluid restlessness of abstraction. Free association is a touchstone as her images are compounded in her imagination. She pushes the painterliness of her surfaces, effecting a complex synthesis between color and line, gesture and movement.
Painting is her means of inquiry, invention, and lush discovery. The construction of each piece occurs directly on canvas with no preconception. Abstract painting convinces her that she can connect and identify with the historically mythic language.
Willow Rea– was raised on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the town of Manteo as the youngest of three girls. Both of her parents are lifelong musicians which originally provoked her interest in the arts. While studying studio art at UNCW, Willow became intrigued with printmaking, ceramics, and figure drawing. After college, she moved to Puerto Rico where she pursued a ceramics career but struggled to source materials and create a productive studio environment. This pushed her to explore other forms of expression which led her to painting. Today, she enjoys print-making and mixed-media painting, though she is always eager to learn of new ways to create. As a surfer and all-around water-woman, her work is often inspired by the natural beauty of the coastline and the culture that makes up the coastal communities she holds close to her heart.
Susannah Sakal– is a lifelong creator and maker. She has worked with many mediums over the years. She is inspired by the rhythms of the natural world, drawing inspiration from observing the patterns that underlie the energy of nature.
For this show she is presenting the series titled “Fish N’ Charts”. The art in the series combines images of fish and connects them to the nautical charts representing where they live.
