Dementia Friendly Coalition Program

July 2 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

The Outer Banks is a Dementia Friendly Community. Have you seen the Purple Seahorse Emblem on a business establishment’s door or window? The purple seahorse has been selected as out local symbol for dementia and when you see is on local establishments it means you are entering a Dementia Friendly business.

Currently there are over 35 Dementia Friendly Trained businesses in the Outer Banks. We have the first Dementia Friendly Hospital and now offer two free “Day Out Programs” for home Caregivers.

The Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition is “a group of volunteers that have come together to provide educational opportunities and support for those living with dementia and their caregivers”

On Tuesday, July 2 in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall we welcome the Coalition to lead a program. Dianne Denny and Jan Collins will speak about the Coalition, it’s mission, and how the Outer Banks is becoming a “Dementia Friendly Community”.

Following the Dementia Friendly Coalition program, join veteran storytellers, Judith Onesty and Les Schaffer of Two Tellers Telling, for a storytelling session especially designed for those with dementia and their caregivers. This program features fun activities and games, where participants share and listen to stories, rhymes and songs, fostering connection and memory stimulation. Enjoy a welcoming environment that supports meaningful engagement,  joy and emotional well-being for all.
