POLICE OFFICER (TWO POSITIONS)
The Town of Duck is seeking individuals to perform general law enforcement duties to include, but not limited to, traffic enforcement and investigation; criminal enforcement and investigation; protecting life and property; responding to calls for service and complaints; writing detailed and accurate reports; testifying in court; performing other job related tasks as required.
Prior law enforcement experience is not required, but preferred applicants will be currently enrolled in or will have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training. Individuals applying should be of strong moral character, have a valid North Carolina driver’s license, and be willing to work rotating shifts.

The Town of Duck is seeking qualified and energetic individuals to fill the position of Firefighter/EMT. Those individuals meeting minimum requirements and selected for the process will be scheduled for a skills evaluation and an interview.
Responsibilities: An employee in this class is responsible for performing all functions and services of firefighting and emergency medical rescue. Emphasis of the work is on responding to and providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to citizens and businesses. Work also involves assisting in daily operations; equipment and station maintenance; assist with storm/disaster events; attend and participate in trainings related to fire, rescue and EMS; assist with pre-incident planning and fire safety inspections; ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained; the performance of public relations activities; as well as other activities as requested.
Minimum Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalency is required.
Experience: One to three years of experience in fire science, fire tactics, emergency response, or public safety work preferred.
- North Carolina Class B driver’s license required within 6 months of employment.
- North Carolina certification as Level II Firefighter, required. Will accept out of state certifications if North Carolina reciprocity is obtained within 6 months.
- North Carolina certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic) required. Will accept out of state certification if reciprocity is obtained within 6 months.
Storm Duties: This position is classified as essential personnel and must maintain duty assignment in adverse conditions.
