INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Suspicious Vehicle (Duck Road / Olde Duck Road)
On August 5, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a vehicle that had been idling for over 30 minutes with no lights on. Officers arrived and spoke with the occupants of the vehicle. There were no criminal issues detected, but officers asked the occupants to move away from the area, which they did.
- Town Code Violation (Seabreeze Drive)
On August 5, 2024, an officer was dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a vehicle that was illegally parked in the roadway. The officer arrived and located the owner of the vehicle. The owner was issued a civil citation for illegal parking.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On August 5, 2024, an officer was dispatched to the ABC Store when the clerk believed he had been presented with a fake ID. The responding officer determined the ID was fraudulent. The ID was seized and the suspect was advised not to come back to the store.
- Intoxicated Person (Four Seasons Lane / Duck Road)
On August 6, 2024, officers observed an elderly male having trouble walking down the multi-use path late at night. Officers spoke with the male. It appeared the male had fallen which caused a small cut near his eye. The male was intoxicated but he was able to walk. The male refused to speak with the officers. Nonetheless, the officers followed the male to make sure he was able to get to his destination. The officers observed the male fall in the grass and then begin crawling towards Duck Road. Officers stopped and restrained the male for his own safety. Officers were able to contact the male’s wife and son-in-law who came to the scene and took responsibility for the male.
- Injury to Property (Duck Road)
On August 7, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a Jeep running over the curb and hitting a fence. The driver advised her foot slipped and hit the accelerator pedal causing the vehicle to accelerate quickly. There was no damage to the vehicle. The driver agreed to pay for the damage done to the fence.
- Suspicious Person (Osprey Ridge Road)
On August 7, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a female seen walking around a vacant property. Officers found that the individual worked for the property management company and was at the home changing air filters.
- Dispute (East Bias Lane)
On August 8, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a dispute between the homeowners and a landscaper. Officers de-escalated the situation and assisted the parties in reaching a resolution.
- Domestic Dispute (Duck Road)
On August 8, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a family argument over a male on scene refusing to leave. The male had left the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. The officers determined that the dispute was verbal in nature.
- Trespassing (Seabreeze Drive Beach Access)
On August 8, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to subjects staying on Osprey Ridge Road using the private beach access on Seabreeze Drive. The subjects advised that they were told by their rental company that the access was available to them. Officers explained that the access was private. The subjects were polite and cooperative and apologized for their confusion.
- Fraud (Duck Road)
On August 9, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to vacation rental fraud. Management advised that the victim used a fraudulent website to rent a unit for 6 months. When the victim arrived, she learned that the unit was a weekly rental that was exclusively rented through the management company. The victim left before the officers arrived, so they were unable to interview her.
- Counterfeit Currency (Duck Road)
On August 9, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a counterfeit $10-dollar bill. Officers arrived and took possession of the bill. Store employees were able to identify the suspect, who was a juvenile. Officers interviewed the suspect and his grandmother who had given her grandson the bill. Officers determined the juvenile and grandmother were unaware the bill was counterfeit.
- Suspicious Condition (Four Seasons Lane)
On August 9, 2024, officers were dispatched to contact a male in reference to several females acting suspicious. The male, who is in the 9th grade advised he was hanging out with two females in the 11th grade. The male advised that he let the females have two pairs of his socks, so the females could walk down to the beach. The females advised they were going to call the police because the male was following them. The male was concerned and called the police to ask if he was in trouble. Officers were unable to locate the females and no calls came in relating to the male gifting socks.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On August 10, 2024, an officer was dispatched to the ABC Store when the clerk believed he had been presented with a fake ID. The responding officer determined the ID was authentic and valid.
- Injury to Property (Duck Road)
On August 11, 2024, officers were dispatched to contact a driver who had a crack in his windshield. The driver advised he was driving through Sanderling and saw something hit his passenger side window which caused a crack. The driver thought someone was hiding in the bushes with a BB gun. Officers found no evidence of someone hiding in the bushes and advised the driver the crack appeared to have been caused by a small rock. The driver did not want a report on the matter.
TRAFFIC CRASHES
- 1240 Duck Road
On August 9, 2024, Duck officers were dispatched to contact an individual in reference to a crash that occurred the previous day. The drivers of the involved vehicles chose to exchange information rather than contacting the police. The officer refused to file a crash report after the fact, because he was unable to investigate the crash at the time it occurred.
