INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Animal Call (Gifford Circle)
On August 21, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a sick raccoon. Officers made contact with the Dare County SPCA, who advised they would handle the issue.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On August 21, 2024, an officer was dispatched to Scarborough Faire Shops in reference to a male playing live music. Officers investigated the situation and determined there was no violation. The male had permission to be on the property, was not being paid by the establishment, and was not peddling or selling any goods. The male was allowed to continue playing.
- Suspicious Condition (South Baum Trail)
On August 22, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a male walking around the property possibly trying to access the beach. Officers arrived and found an open door with no signs of forced entry. The residence was checked, and everything appeared okay. The male was not located on the property or in the area.
- Larceny (Duck Road)
On August 23, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to money being stolen out of serval wallets in a rental unit. The caller advised that a worker was in their rental unit the same day the money went missing. Officers interviewed the worker in question and ruled him out as a suspect. There were thirteen people staying in the rental house for the week, and no evidence was located to tie anyone to the crime.
- Animal Call (Jay Crest Road)
On August 23, 2024, an officer was dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a deceased raccoon in the area. An officer removed the raccoon.
- Careless and Reckless Driver (Sea Colony Drive and Duck Road)
On August 23, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a possible intoxicated driver. Officers located the vehicle parked and unoccupied. The occupants of the vehicle were located in a nearby restaurant. Officers were unable to make an arrest based on the circumstances, but the vehicle was towed, and the occupants agreed to use a ride share service to get back to their residence in Corolla.
- Assault Prior (Duck Road)
On August 23, 2024, a female came to the police department to report being assaulted by her mother-in-law. Officers observed an injury on the victim’s face. Upon further investigation it was determined the assault occurred at a rental home in Corolla. The case was turned over to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
- Talk With Officer (Duck Road)
On August 23, 2024, officers conducting a foot patrol at the Waterfront Shops observed two low-speed vehicles operating with children not restrained in car seats. Officers spoke to the occupants and educated them about the legal requirement for proper child restraints in low-speed vehicles.
- Dispute (West Charles Jenkins Lane)
On August 23, 2024, officers were dispatched to a dispute between neighbors. The caller advised that their family home was in the process of being sold, and every time work has been done at the house, the neighbor has harassed the workers. The caller requested that officers conduct extra patrols at the house until the sale is completed.
- Suspicious Condition (Four Seasons Lane)
On August 24, 2024, officers on patrol located an unattended low-speed vehicle (LSV) at the entrance of the Four Seasons subdivision As the officers began to investigate, the renters of the LSV arrived and advised the vehicle ran hot and they needed to immediately stop it. Once the vehicle cooled down the renters were able to depart the scene.
- Suspicious Condition (Spindrift Court)
On August 24, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to dogs being left on the deck barking for hours. The caller was wondering if everyone was okay at the residence. Officers made contact with the renters and found them to be okay. The renters were asked to bring their dogs inside the residence due to noise complaints in the area.
- Hit and Run (Duck Road)
On August 24, 2024, officers found a mailbox lying on the side of the road that appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Officers had stopped a vehicle for striking a curb in the area the night prior. Believing that the same vehicle may have struck the mailbox, officers went to the residence of the driver to see if there was any damage to the vehicle. Officers observed damage that was consistent with a mailbox strike. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
TRAFFIC CRASHES
- 1461 Duck Road
On August 23, 2024, an officer was dispatched to contact a motorist who struck a deer while driving. The caller advised that the deer was hit somewhere in the Sanderling area but was not sure of the exact location. The caller advised he had left the scene. Officers advised the caller that he would have to return to Duck, so the officer could observe and document the damage to the vehicle before a report could be filed. The caller did not return.
