Pedestrian Plan Update – May 4, 2018

The first phase of pedestrian improvements along the east side of Duck Road (N.C. Highway 12) in Duck Village is close to completion.  Over the past week, Barnhill Contracting completed dozens of items on its punch list.  Significant projects included reconstruction of curbing by Kellogg Hardware’s parking area, raising and reworking a segment of sidewalk in front of the Scarborough Lane Shoppes to address stormwater drainage issues, and reconstructing a portion of the intersection at Duck Ridge Village Court to address stormwater issues.

The Town anticipates that most of the remaining activities will be completed during the week of May 7th.   After the first section cures, Barnhill Contracting plans to complete the remaining portion of the intersection at Duck Ridge Village.  Coinjock Farms Landscaping plans to install the landscaping between the sidewalk and bike lane on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Liquid Lawns plans to spray hydroseed to stabilize the graded areas alongside the new sidewalks.  The project is on schedule to be completed by its target date of May 15, 2018.

Although the sidewalk itself is complete and may be used, please be aware that the project area is still an active construction site.  Whether walking, biking, or driving, please be alert for hazards and travel safely as you pass through the construction area.
