Pedestrian Plan Update- May 18, 2018

Our daily rainstorms over the past week have delayed several projects necessary for the completion of the first phase of pedestrian improvements along the east side of Duck Road (N.C. Highway 12).   Coinjock Farms Landscaping was able to install most of its initial plantings and mulch in the gateway medians and between the new sidewalk and shoulder of Duck Road.  Coinjock Farms is awaiting delivery of nearly 1,300 Little Bluestem plants when they become available in early June to complete the landscaping project.

Weather permitting, American Road Markings plans to complete installation of the crosswalk markings and bike lane markings in the northbound shoulder of Duck Road during the week of May 21st.  Millstone Marine will be constructing a new pedestrian ramp to line up with the new crosswalk markings and median between the post office and Sunset Grille.  Crosswalk lighting will be added at the new crosswalk between the Town Park and PNC Bank.  The Town is also evaluating options for lighting in the gateway median by Four Seasons.  VHB Engineering will be conducting a final walk-through of the project on May 24th.  The Town of Duck is planning to hold an official ribbon-cutting event for the sidewalk in early-June.

Although the sidewalk itself is complete and may be used, please be aware that the project area will be an active construction site at times.  Whether walking, biking, or driving, please respect the workers and equipment and travel safely as you pass through the construction area.
