Pedestrian Plan Update- December 22, 2017

This week saw a significant amount of progress on Phase I of the Town of Duck Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan along the east side of Duck Road (N.C. Highway 12) in Duck Village.  Barnhill Contracting completed its grading and site preparations in the southernmost portion of the project between Four Seasons and the crosswalk at Aqua Spa & Restaurant.  This section of the project will consist of an eight-foot (8’) wide shared use path extending the existing Duck Trail to the south.  This portion of the pathway is now ready for asphalt surfacing, which will likely be completed on a fair-weather day in January.

Barnhill Contracting completed its installation of silt fencing to prevent erosion and sedimentation as excavation and grading work continue northward through the project area.  Excavation and grading was completed from the southern end of the project (Four Seasons) to the BP/Coastal Cravings property.

Barnhill ceased the excavation/grading work with heavy equipment and traffic lane shift on December 21st.  They will neaten up the construction area, ensure that the project is left in safe condition, and break from construction after December 22nd for the holidays.

Construction is planned to begin again on January 2nd.  This construction will include additional excavation work north of the BP/Coastal Cravings property and installation of retaining walls where necessary along the corridor.  There will be a traffic lane shift in areas with heavy equipment work.  So, please be alert and drive slowly and safely through the construction area.

As there is no construction work occurring, there will not be a weekly project update next week unless additional, important information becomes available to the Town.
