Pedestrian Plan Phase II Update- November 30, 2018

Over the past week, RPC Contracting completed initial grading from the northern end of the project area (Resort Realty) extending southward to the Dare County water tower.

RPC Contracting will continue with initial grading of the sidewalk corridor next week moving south of the water tower. Due to the use of heavy equipment, the southbound travel lane may be closed at times with traffic being directed into the middle lane during the closures. Please be alert for construction activity and drive slowly and safely through this area as you travel through town.

This week CenturyLink is scheduled to begin the relocation of the terminal in front of the Osprey Landing shopping center at 1190 Duck Road. Spectrum will also be moving half a dozen cable pedestals from the sidewalk’s path over the next few weeks.

More substantial grading and site preparations by RPC are currently scheduled for the week of December 10th. Millstone Marine is scheduled to start construction of several bulkheads during the following week (beginning December 17th).

The second phase of the sidewalk project will be constructed along the west side of Duck Road from the crosswalk at Aqua Restaurant & Spa to Resort Realty at the northern end of Duck Village. Planned improvements include a dedicated bike lane, landscaped strip, and sidewalk. The project will also involve utility relocation and the installation of a lighted crosswalk at Dune Road. A majority of the Phase 2 construction will take place over the late-Fall/Winter months, with an expected completion date sometime in late-April/early-May 2019.
