Pedestrian Plan Phase II Update- December 14, 2018

Over the past week, RPC Contracting completed a modest amount of initial grading in the northern portion of the project area..

An increase in construction activity is expected next week as Millstone Marine is scheduled to begin the replacement of an existing retaining wall adjoining the future sidewalk at the Nags Head Hammocks/Duck United Methodist Church properties.  As other jobs have wrapped up, RPC Contracting also plans on dedicating additional workers and equipment to grading activities along the northern portion of the project.  Due to the use of heavy equipment, the southbound travel lane may be closed at times with traffic being directed into the middle lane during the closures. Please be alert for construction activity and drive slowly and safely through this area as you travel through town.

RPC Contracting plans to cease construction over the holiday period (December 22 through January 1). They will begin construction again on January 2nd.

The second phase of the sidewalk project will be constructed along the west side of Duck Road from the crosswalk at Aqua Restaurant & Spa to Resort Realty at the northern end of Duck Village. Planned improvements include a dedicated bike lane, landscaped strip, and sidewalk. The project will also involve utility relocation and the installation of a lighted crosswalk at Dune Road. A majority of the Phase 2 construction will take place over the Winter/early-Spring months, with an expected completion date sometime in May 2019.
