The Town of Duck has contracted with RPC Contracting, a local company based in Kitty Hawk, NC, to construct stormwater management improvements along a 400 foot stretch of the Duck Trail shared use path adjoining the Sound-Sea Village neighborhood. The Town of Duck has been facing issues with flooding in this section of the Duck Trail after typical rainstorms and soil settlement due to the failure of an adjoining retaining wall. RPC Contracting will be responsible for reconstructing the retaining wall, constructing underground stormwater management improvements, and repaving this section of the Duck Trail with permeable concrete.
The project is scheduled to begin during the week of March 21st. Per its contract, RPC Contracting has 75 days to complete construction of the stormwater and Duck Trail improvements, resulting in a final construction deadline of May 28, 2016.
The project involves work to a section of the Duck Trail between Acorn Oak Avenue and Sound Sea Avenue, as well as additional drainage improvements on the west side of Duck Road. This section of the Duck Trail will be undergoing heavy construction and will be closed to public access during the construction process. RPC Contracting anticipates that the occasional closure of a single lane along Duck Road will be necessary during the project to accommodate the use of heavy equipment and material deliveries.
