High Winds and Flooding to Continue Through the Weekend

High winds and coastal flooding are expected to remain through the weekend and there is a chance that flooding may increase. The most recent forecast from the National Weather Service indicates ocean and sound waters could reach as high as 4 feet above ground level, a foot higher than previously anticipated.

Dare County Emergency Management advises residents and visitors to use caution since many roads and neighborhoods will continue to experience flooding, particularly during periods of high tide.

• Slow down and remember that you’re driving through salt water which is damaging to vehicles.
• Do not drive into flooded roadways; Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Water may be deeper than it appears and can hide many hazards.
• Do not walk through flood waters. It only takes six inches of moving water to knock you off your feet.
