Don Kingston is proudly serving his second term on the Duck Town Council having first being elected in 2009. He is currently serving as Mayor. Don, and his wife Sharon, started visiting and vacationing in Duck in the late 1980′s, built their home in 2000, and become permanent residents in 2007. Don earned an MBA from the University of Rochester Simon School, and both a BS in Business Administration and an Associates Degree in Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He also completed the Executive Development Program from Harvard University. His 45-year business career has included 22 years in senior management positions with Xerox Corporation, five years as a business owner, and seven years in regional management with two firms – Computer Task Group, Inc. and Robert Half International, Inc. — both in the information technology systems development and staffing industry. The last 11 years he served as an officer and vice president of Kelly Services, Inc. Don has been an active volunteer since moving to Duck in 2007, and was a member of the Duck Planning Board appointed by Town Council in early 2009.

Monica Thibodeau has served as a Council Member since December 2002. A vacationer to the Outer Banks since childhood, Monica has been a permanent resident of Duck for nearly 20 years and has raised her family here. She has been an active volunteer in many community programs. Monica has a BA from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University. She has been the managing owner of Carolina Designs Realty, Inc. since 1991. Monica is currently serving as the Town’s Mayor Pro Tempore.

Chuck Burdick joined the Duck Town Council in December 2009 and is currently serving his second term. He has been the Town’s contract postmaster for the last four years and has worked on the “Build the Bridge” Committee surveying all of the Duck Road properties. As postmaster, Chuck is responsible for providing high-quality postal service to the community. He and his family became Duck residents in 2000 and has been a vacation homeowner since 1984. Chuck is a chemical engineer, receiving his degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1962 and has an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chatanooga. Chuck has 40 years of industrial management experience and was vice president of operations for Sudamtex de Venezuela prior to his retirement to Duck.

Nancy Caviness has been integrally involved in the community since arriving in 1995 to open Advice 5¢ a Bed and Breakfast.  The 2011-2013 term as Council Member will be her fourth time serving, in addition to the earlier years when she served on both the Taskforce for Municipal Incorporation and on Duck’s interim and first Town Council.  Nancy holds a BS (1981) in Home Economics and Family Studies from the University of Connecticut (Storrs) and an MS (1989) in Community Health Education from Old Dominion University.  In 2009, she earned a Public Health Leadership Certificate from UNC’s (Chapel Hill) School of Public Health.  In 2011, she was promoted to Support Lieutenant for the Duck Volunteer Fire Department, where she has volunteered since 1998 and proudly directs the Annual Advice 5K Turkey Trot here in Duck.  Her love for running has included the completion of 12 marathons and the attainment of an RRCA-Certification for Coaching.

Dave Wessel earned his BA in History and Education from Rutgers University, an MBA from Duke, and has done additional post-graduate study at George Mason University.  He has also earned professional certifications as a quality manager and project management professional. Dave moved to Duck with his wife, Polly, in 1999 and quickly became involved in the Tuckahoe Homeowners’ Association, the Duck Civic Association, and the Duck incorporation effort.  Over the course of his professional career, Dave has been a successful sales/marketing manager, management consultant, and founder of his own consulting compan,y as well as quality manager and training director at a national non-profit organization.  He served as Vice President for Corporate and Continuing Education at College of The Albemarle from September 2006 to December 2010, when he returned to his private consulting practice.  He has been a member of the Duck Town Council since December 2007, represented Duck on the Dare County Tourism Board in 2009, served as Mayor for the Town in 2010-2011, and is currently the Town’s representative on the Dare County Shoreline Management Commission.
