Event schedule for the week of July 20, 2009

Duck, NC – The Town of Duck’s 2009 Summer Events series is in full swing! This year’s schedule offers evening concerts; exercise classes on the Town Green; morning musical theater; children’s story time; and a newly added author discussion series. All of the events will take place at the Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road.

The schedule of events for the week of July 20th is:

Monday, July 20, 2009
Basic Yoga/Deep Stretch 7:30 a.m.- Basic Yoga is appropriate for people of all ages. Julia Daniel from Outer Banks Yoga in Kitty Hawk is the instructor. Participants should bring a Pilates/yoga mat or a beach towel and water. In the case of inclement weather, this class will be held at the picnic shelter.

Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Tai Chi 7:30 a.m.- Tai Chi is appropriate for people of all ages. Julia Daniel from Outer Banks Yoga in Kitty Hawk is the instructor. Participants should bring a towel and water. In the case of inclement weather, this class will be held at the picnic shelter.

Summer Music Series 6:00 p.m. – Laura Martier- Laura Martier is well-known on the Outer Banks for her vocal stylings and will be performing jazz standards and original numbers.

Morning Theater and Music Series featuring “The Lost Colony” cast 10:00 a.m.- “The Lost Colony” Company will perform various madrigal chorus selections from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods of the 16th and 17th centuries with special
guests Queen Elizabeth I and Simon Fernando.

“Fit and Flexible,” beginning Pilates 7:30 a.m.- This class is for all fitness levels. Participants should bring a Pilates/yoga mat or a beach towel and water. Patti Waller is the instructor. In the case of inclement weather, this class will be held at the picnic shelter.

Children’s Story Time 10:00 a.m.- Story time is geared to children between the ages of 3 and 7 and is sponsored by the Town’s two book stores: Duck’s Cottage and Island Book Store.

Summer Music Series 6:00 p.m. – Scott Franson and Christine Young- This acoustic duo will be performing music from the 60’s to today.

Author Discussion Series 10:00 a.m. – “The Outer Banks Cookbook” by Elizabeth Wiegand- Author Elizabeth Wiegand will prepare a couple of savory recipes using sweet, mild-tasting mahi-mahi from “The Outer Banks Cookbook,” which consists of more than 150 recipes that celebrate the many flavors of North Carolina’s coastal communities, including both traditional dishes and specialties from the many restaurants dotting the Outer Banks.

More than just recipes, this tribute to the Outer Banks also includes everything from shipwreck lore and stories of yesteryear to practical tips on throwing an oyster roast or preparing a distinctive local specialty such as broiled fish throat.
