Town Council to Conduct Public Hearing on June 5, 2013

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., the Town Council of the Town of Duck will conduct a public hearing to consider the following zoning ordinance amendment:

Ordinance 13-04 – Structures Within the Primary and Frontal Dunes

This ordinance would add Town Code Section 156.141 – Structures within the Primary and Frontal Dunes to the Town of Duck Code of Ordinances. Regulations would be established to create a specific setback for oceanfront accessory structures (pools, decks, gazebos) from the first line of stable natural vegetation. Also included would be regulatory standards pertaining to the construction and placement of dune walkovers and oceanfront pools.

Duck Boardwalk Survey Report

Thank you to those individuals who responded to the Duck Boardwalk survey posted on April 26th, 2013. We had an outstanding response of 190 individuals who provided insight on who is using the boardwalk and how. Most respondents expressed a great love for the Boardwalk, whether you are able to walk on it daily or yearly.

2013 Summer Events – Basic Fitness and Yoga Classes

Start your day in Duck with exercise on the Town Green. Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. from June 5 through August 29, join basic fitness and yoga classes offered by Ashtanga Yoga Center and Duck Village Yoga. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat or beach towel and water. All classes are free.

During Basic Fitness Wednesdays participants will be led through a variety of calisthenics from around the world instructed in a beautiful outdoor setting. Calisthenics are a series of body-weight only movements linked seamlessly to develop proficiency in dynamic situations.

Yoga on Thursdays will be geared toward students of all levels. The students will be led through a sequence of basic yoga postures linked with breathing. Class will not be held on Thursday, July 4.

Subject came into front office and was causing a disturbance and threatening employees.

Town Council to Hold Budget Public Hearing

Beach Erosion & Shoreline Management Update

At their meeting held on May 15, 2013, the Town of Duck Council authorized the Town Manager to proceed with the development of a scope of work with Coastal Planning and Engineering related to a long-term beach erosion management project in the Town for the area north of the Army Corps Field Research Facility. Specifically, the Town Council authorized the development of a scope of work for the permitting and engineering of a long term dredge and fill project, up to a 50-year storm damage reduction project. It is anticipated that the Town will work to permit the most comprehensive project, but will likely only be able to construct a somewhat less robust project due to funding limitations. The Town Council also authorized the development of a scope of work for the permitting and engineering of a dune fill project to have on hand to provide short term protection to properties, if needed, while the long term dredge and fill project is being permitted.

The final Erosion & Shoreline Management Feasibility Study prepared by Coastal Planning and Engineering is available here.
