Lunch & Learn Session Scheduled by the Duck Planning Board
April 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pmFree
The Town of Duck Planning Board invites the public to attend a series of “Lunch & Learn” sessions taking place this spring. These hour-long, online training modules were produced by the UNC School of Government to help educate local councils, boards, and decision-makers about the standards and processes involved in making decisions on land use applications. The Duck Planning Board has worked with the Community Development Department to organize a series of “Lunch & Learn” sessions to view these online training modules which will cover two topics per session, as listed below. Sessions will take place at the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall located at 1200 Duck Road from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, March 23, with additional sessions on Thursday, April 21, and Thursday, May 19.
Although developed for local councils, boards, and decision-makers, the sessions will be open to anyone who wants to learn more about the legal and procedural requirements that all communities in North Carolina must follow when reviewing development applications. Scheduled during lunch hour to accommodate working members’ schedules, attendees are welcome to bring a lunch or simply listen and participate in the sessions. For more information, you can contact Joe Heard, Director of Community Development, at email@example.com or 252.255.1234.

Special and Conditional Use Permits – Many communities in North Carolina create a special process for reviewing certain types of uses on an individual, case-by-case basis. This training module explains the roles of the Planning Board and Town Council in reviewing a conditional use permit application.
Exactions – Exactions are infrastructure improvements, land dedications, or funds that a community requires a developer to provide as a condition of development approval. This training module outlines when and how a community can require these types of improvements during the development process.
