POLICE OFFICER
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Town of Duck Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Patrol Officer. Successful candidates must possess knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures, as well as strong analytical, leadership, and administrative skills; excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to deal professionally, courteously and fairly with the public; ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances; proficiency in the use of firearms and operation of police vehicles; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public. In addition the successful candidate will possess problem solving skills and considerable knowledge not only within traditional law enforcement areas, but also in a broad range public service matters, and will be able to use these skills to make the right decisions based not only on the law, but the intent of the law as it relates to our mission and goals both short and long term.
The successful candidate will be one who understands and embraces the holistic nature of our Town Government and its dedicated professionals in delivering superior performance in all facets of public service. The selected candidate will work in our beautiful oceanfront community with a year round population of 522 and a summer population of approximately 25,000. Identifying and addressing the unique needs of both our residents and visitors is a challenge that the successful candidate will be able to address with innovation and dauntless enthusiasm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- be a U.S. citizen
- be at least 21 years of age
- NC BLET or certification from a reciprocal state is required
- possess a valid driver's license
- vision correctable to 20/20
- successful completion of selection process
SELECTION PROCESS:

STARTING SALARY: Salary Range: $35,507 to $55,035. Starting salaries are adjusted based on experience, training, and education. Employees receive a 5% salary increase at the successful completion of a probationary period. Paid holidays (12 per year), vacation 96 hours per year, increasing to 120 hours after five years of service, and to 160 hours after 10 years of service, sick leave (96 hours per year) and health coverage (100% for employee or 75% of family coverage).
