The Duck Trail
THE DUCK TRAIL
The Duck Trail was constructed and paid for by the property owners of
Duck. It serves as a wonderful source of recreation for Duck residents and
visitors and, its paramount purpose is safety -- to provide
pedestrians and cyclists a safe alternative to a highly dangerous situation that
previously existed. Thus, it is in the spirit of that overriding concern that
these guidelines were developed by a group of persistent, and hard working
volunteers in our community. Please observe these safety guidelines
at all times.
Motorists:
- Obey speed limits - 25 mph within the Village
- Watch for all pedestrians and cyclists on all streets, intersections, and driveways
- When entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12) onto side streets or
entrance ways, be aware that you are crossing the trail -- slow down and use caution
Cyclists:
- Watch for cars entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12)
- Keep to your RIGHT, and alert others when approaching from
behind, then pass safely to the left
- It is very helpful to have a bike bell to alert those you are
passing. A verbal "on your left" is also helpful
Runners & Walkers:
- Watch for cars entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12)
- While on the trail, keep to your RIGHT
- If wearing a headset, keep the volume at a low level so you can
hear cyclists or cars that may be approaching
In-Line Skaters
- Watch for cars entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12)
- While on the trail, keep to your RIGHT -- be aware of the amount
of space you use so as to not jeopardize the safety of
pedestrians or cyclists
Other:
- Mopeds and motorized carts are not permitted on the trail
- Dogs should be leashed and cleaned up after
- Stay to the RIGHT with carriages and strollers and slow when
someone indicates that she or he is intending to pass to
your left
