The Duck Trail was constructed and paid for by the property owners of
Duck. It serves as a wonderful source of recreation for Duck residents and
visitors. Its paramount purpose is safety -- to provide
pedestrians and bicyclists a safe walking and cycling path through Duck. Please remember, pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way on the Duck Trail.
Thus, it is in the spirit of that overriding concern, that
these following guidelines were developed.
Please observe these safety guidelines
at all times.
Motorists:
- Obey all posted speed limits and signage throughout Town. The speed limit is 25 MPH within the Village Commercial area. Watch for all pedestrians and cyclists on all streets, intersections, and driveways.
- When entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12) onto side streets or
entrance ways, be aware that you are crossing the Duck Trail. Look both to your left and right and use caution. Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right-of-way.
Cyclists:
- Watch for cars entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12). Keep to your RIGHT, alert others when approaching from
behind, and then pass safely to the left.
- It is very helpful to have a bike bell to alert those you are
passing. A verbal "on your left"can also be used.
Runners and Walkers:
- Watch for cars entering and exiting from Duck Road (NC 12). While on the trail, keep to your RIGHT.
- If wearing a headset, keep the volume at a low level so you can
hear cyclists or cars that may be approaching
In-Line Skaters

of space you use so as to not jeopardize the safety of
pedestrians or bicyclists. Alert others when approaching from
