The Duck Police Department began patrols on April 15, 2003. Patrols are now 24 hours a day, with a full staff of seven officers. We responded to 389 calls for service in July, 325 in August, and 213 in September. There were 235 calls for service in November.

provided 24 hours of assistance at the traffic checkpoint on U.S. 158.
Officer Couture responded to Duck Landing
Lane and after a search of the area located a subject with a backpack and sleeping bag. Upon speaking with the subject Officer Couture learned that he had hitch hiked from Greenville. A check for warrants found that the subject was wanted in Greenville on First Degree Burglary charges. Officer Couture arrested the subject. Resist, Obstruct, & Delay an Officer. Officer Couture charged a subject who gave a false name and attempted to run from him.

PROPERTY CRIMES
Break & Enter, Larceny, The Kids Store at The Waterfront Shops. One adult male, two juvenile males, two juvenile females broke into store and removed a small amount of cash. Suspects were identified owing to a traffic stop made by Officer Farmer and were later identified by Chief Hamilton, Officer Ferguson, and Investigator Doug Doughtie of the Dare County Sheriff's Office.
