The Duck Police Department began patrols on April 15, 2003. Patrols are now 24 hours a day, with a full staff of seven officers. We responded to 389 calls for service in July, 325 in August, and 213 in September. There were 235 calls for service in November.

•   Mutual Aid, Officer Davis assisted Southern Shores Officer Drummond with a speeding violation, DWI, & drug arrest at N.C. 12 & 12th Ave.

•   Break & Enter, Larceny, 128 Waxwing Ln., telephone, decoy, VCR, & telescope taken from home, no forced entry.
•   Shoplifting, Lady Victorian, suspect concealed a sweater and was detained by the shop owner. Officer Ackerman cited the suspect.

OTHER
•   Mutual Aid, Officer Davis assisted Southern Shores Officer MacIntosh with a DWI & drug arrest at N.C. 12 & Sand Fiddler Drive.

•   Communicate Threats, Scarborough Lane, general contractor threatened sub-contractor concerning prior labor. Victim did not wish to press charges.

•   Larceny, Ship’s Wheel Court, bicycle & outdoor solar lights taken from yard.
•   First Degree Burglary, Ocean Pines Drive, jacket and wallet containing money taken from residence.

OTHER
•   Mutual Aid Kitty Hawk Police Department, Officer Farmer assisted with the arrest of a suspect who lives in Duck.
•   Driving over sand dune, 02-05 Section 2.

•   Break & Enter, Larceny, on Dune Road, unknown suspect entered unsecured home and removed items of furniture.
•   Larceny, on Sunfish Court, unknown suspect entered home and removed DVD/VCR combo & lamp.
•   Larceny, on Sand Castle Court, unknown suspect entered home and removed laptop computer

OTHER
•   Mutual Aid Southern Shores Police Department, Officer Ackerman assisted with misdemeanor marijuana arrest on Ocean Blvd.
•   Attempted Suicide, on Duck Landing Lane, 22 year old male overdosed on prescription medication. The subject was transported to Outer Banks Hospital & was subject to an involuntary committal.

•   Damage To Property, Bufflehead Drive, contractor mistakenly damaged dunes while performing work.

•   Break & Enter, Larceny, 131 Skimmer Way, prior break in of storage area, a bicycle was taken. This incident occurred between 05-31-03 and 10-18-03.

•   Natural Death, 136 Duck Landing Lane, 87-year-old female died in her sleep.

•   Attempted First Degree Burglary, South Snow Geese Drive, victim reports that someone removed a window screen, reached in and grabbed her foot, and fled the area. Bloodhound Tracking Team attempted a drop scent in the area; however, no trail was located.
•   Damage to Personal Property, Homeport Gifts, Scarborough Lane Shops, employee reported that a customer damaged a framed print and then left the store.
•   Larceny from Business, Eden Spa 1245 Duck Road, cash missing from business.
•   Larceny, Duck Landing Lane, TV/VCR combination and DVD/VCR combination missing from residence.
•   Larceny of Gas, Crown Oil Company, 1209 Duck Road, subject drove away without paying for gas.

OTHER
•   Mutual Aid, Kill Devil Hills Police Department, Officer Davis and Southern Shores Officer assisted in traffic stop with fleeing motorcyclist at NC 12 & East Dogwood.
•   Mutual Aid, Dare County Sheriff's Office, Officer Ferguson and Bloodhound Morse were asked to respond to the scene of a shooting on Scarborough Street in Manteo. The suspect was located prior to the Tracking Team's response.

Mutual Aid, Kitty Hawk Police Department - our officers provided 24 hours of assistance at the traffic checkpoint on U.S. 158.
Officer Couture responded to Duck Landing Lane and after a search of the area located a subject with a backpack and sleeping bag. Upon speaking with the subject Officer Couture learned that he had hitch hiked from Greenville. A check for warrants found that the subject was wanted in Greenville on First Degree Burglary charges. Officer Couture arrested the subject. Resist, Obstruct, & Delay an Officer. Officer Couture charged a subject who gave a false name and attempted to run from him.

Break & Enter, Larceny, on Flight Drive, owners closet entered, liquor, linens, and board games taken.

Assault on an Officer, Beach at Wampun Drive, Officer Davis approached intoxicated subject at beach fire, subject threw a shoe at Officer Davis and ran. When Officer Davis caught subject the man hit Officer Davis. Suspect was arrested and also charged with Resist, Obstruct, and Delay.

PROPERTY CRIMES
Larceny, on Old Duck Road, hammock taken from under residence.
Damage To Property, on Marlin Drive, wooden gate burned in beach fire.

OTHER
Resist, Obstruct, & Delay an Officer, NC 12 & Tuckahoe, subjects created traffic hazard and then refused to identify themselves to Officer Couture.

Communicate Threats, 1200 Block Duck Road, subject left threatening message on victim's cell phone.
Assault on a Female, 1200 Block Duck Road, boyfriend assaulted girlfriend.
Simple Assault, 1200 Block Duck Road, irate customer threw ketchup at store employee and left the area.

PROPERTY CRIMES
Break & Enter, Larceny, The Kids Store at The Waterfront Shops. One adult male, two juvenile males, two juvenile females broke into store and removed a small amount of cash. Suspects were identified owing to a traffic stop made by Officer Farmer and were later identified by Chief Hamilton, Officer Ferguson, and Investigator Doug Doughtie of the Dare County Sheriff's Office.
Damage to Property, on Nor' Banks Drive, window broken in automobile.
Damage to Property, on Cook Drive, window screen damaged by water balloon.
Break & Enter, in Schooner Ridge, intoxicated subject entered unsecured residence and fell asleep. Subject arrested by Officers Ackerman and Davis.
Shoplifting, 1207 Duck Road, Duck Village Outfitters, subjects apprehended.
Larceny, on Christopher Drive, surfboard taken from under residence.
Shoplifting, Birthday Suits Scarborough Lane Shops, subject apprehended.
Larceny, on Sandy Ridge Lane, subjects took beer.
Shoplifting, Ocean Threads, subject apprehended.

OTHER
Disorderly Conduct, NC 12 & Nor' Banks Drive, subject shouting profanities at joggers.
