COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

December 12, 2006

 

 

The Community Improvement Committee (CIC) for the Town of Duck convened at the Duck Municipal Offices at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2006.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chairwoman Lisa Mann, Committee Member George Grinnan, and Committee Member Allen Lehew.

 

OTHERS PRESENT: Public Relations/Special Events Coordinator Kathy McCullough-Testa.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

• Committee Member George Grinnan gave an update on the community dark sky lighting demonstration project conducted by the CIC over the Thanksgiving weekend.  George Grinnan and staff members Sandy Cady and Kathy McCullough-Testa distributed approximately 40 sets of covers free of charge to attendees of the demonstration project.   The light covers will also be offered to all Town property owners at $20 per set and an order form will be inserted in the next Town newsletter and will be added to the Town’s web site.

 

• An update was provided by Kathy McCullough-Testa on the status of all outstanding VIP grants.

 

• An update was provided by Kathy McCullough-Testa on the VIP-2006-007 Sandy Ridge HOA grant.  The Sandy Ridge HOA has decided not to proceed with the work for which the grant was awarded.  Committee Member Allen Lehew made a motion to formally cancel the grant with Committee Member George Grinnan seconding the motion.   The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

• 2006 Holiday Community Appearance Awards were awarded to:

Commercial holiday decorating awards were presented to:

·         Daytime Decorating Award:  Scarborough Faire, 1177 Duck Road:

·         Night-Time Decorating Award: Sunset Grille and Raw Bar, 1245 Duck Road;

·         Honorable Mention Decorating Award:  Nags Head Hammocks, 1212 Duck Road;

Residential holiday decorating awards were presented to:

·         Daytime Decorating Award: Bill and Pat Pettit, 128 Marlin Drive in Saltaire;

·         Night-Time Decorating Award: Mark Meana, 132 Sea Breeze in Sand Dollar Shores.

Neighborhood holiday decorating awards were presented as follows:

·         Daytime Decorating Award: The Sanderling Homeowners Association and the Sanderling Property Owners Association;

·         Night-Time Decorating Award: Port Trinitie Condominiums/Homeowners Association;

·         Honorable Mention Decorating Award: Saltaire Subdivision.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

• Minutes from the November 14, 2006 meeting were unanimously approved.
