2007 Annual Community Appearance Awards Program

Mission

 

To promote an aesthetic environment through the recognition of outstanding building and site design with an awards program that is based on preservation and stewardship of the Town’s unique character for present and future generations.

 

Awards Program

 

Community Appearance Awards are presented annually to encourage aesthetic awareness and to acknowledge individuals and organizations who are working to enhance, improve and beautify the Town of Duck. Nominations for the 2007 Annual Community Appearance Awards are due in the Town Office by the close of business on Wednesday, May 9, 2007.

 

The Awards recognize homeowners, community associations, landscapers, and business owners for their efforts to enhance the Town’s image and economic vitality. 

 

Award recipients are selected based on nominations from the community at large and self nominations are encouraged.  Civic associations may enter projects that positively affect their neighborhoods.  Evaluation of a project by the Awards Committee, to be appointed by the Town Council, will be based on a site review of its exterior.  Structure and outdoor space are considered equally important, as well as how the project visually affects the surrounding community.

 

The Community Appearance Committee will make the final selection of winners using a point scale established prior to the judging.  The Committee may choose not to award a winner in each category.  Additionally, the Committee reserves the right to combine or change categories and to award seasonal awards throughout the year as appropriate.

 

Submission Requirements and Deadline

 

A project application form is attached and is available on the Town’s website.  The application form should be accompanied by photographs that are labeled with the name of the project and the property owner and business owner.  Deliver the completed entry form to the Town of Duck, PO Box 8369, 1240 Duck Road Suite 106, Duck, NC 27949, by the date advertised by the CIC Committee.   For additional information, call (252) 255-1234.

 

Awards Ceremony

 

An awards ceremony shall be held in the Spring during a regularly scheduled Town Council meeting to recognize all applicants and nominees and to announce the winners in each category.  Plaques will be awarded to each category winner.  Each person listed on the entry form as a contributor to the project will receive a certificate.
