TOWN OF DUCK NAMES ITS
2007 ANNUAL COMMUNITY APPEARANCE AWARD WINNERS
Duck, NC - On Wednesday, June 6, 2007, the Town of Duck presented its second annual Community Appearance Awards. The awards are designed to recognize homeowners, community associations, and business owners in their efforts to enhance, improve, and beautify the Town of Duck through outstanding building, landscaping, and/or site design.
Mayor Neil Morrison and Community Improvement Committee (CIC) Chairperson Lisa Mann presented the recipients of the Town of Duck’s 2007 Annual Community Appearance Awards with certificates at a meeting of the Duck Town Council.
Two Commercial property awards were presented to:
- Winner: Duck Village Outfitters represented by Bob and Tanya Hovey;
- Winner: Soundside Shoppes Owners Association represented by Myra Ladd-Bone;
An honorable mention award was also presented to the Duck United Methodist Church which was represented by Tom Bennett and Shirley Ruff.
Homeowner’s Association awards were presented as follows:
- Winner: Sea Tern Homeowners Association represented by Bill Cogger and Valerie Riggs;
- Honorable Mention: Sea Hawk Citizens Association represented by Bart Smith;
- Honorable Mention: Northpoint Homeowners Association represented by Joe DeCaria.
The Community Appearance Awards program is administered by the Town’s Community Improvement Committee (CIC) and includes two separate award programs.
The Annual Community Appearance Award honoring those who are helping to preserve the Town’s unique character. These awards are presented in the spring of each year at a regular meeting of the Town Council.
The second awards program is the Seasonal Community Appearance Awards Program presented by the Town’s CIC throughout the year. To date, seasonal awards have been presented in both 2005 and 2006 for the best fall and holiday displays within the Town of Duck.
The CIC was created by the Duck Town Council on February 2, 2005 to preserve the Town’s unique character for present and future generations. Current Town of Duck CIC members are: Lisa Mann - Chairperson, Beach Essentials; George Grinnan, Town Resident; and Allen Lehew, Duck’s Cottage.
