Town of Duck Planning Board to Meet on Wednesday, March 11, 2009

The Town of Duck Planning Board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town of Duck Administrative Offices. The agenda is now available. Please click here to view. Semi-Annual Bulk Waste Pick-Up Scheduled for April 17, 2009

The Town of Duck schedules two (2) bulk waste collections each year. One in the spring and one in the fall. Collections are provided by Waste Management, Inc.

The next scheduled Bulk Waste collection will occur on Friday, April 17, 2009 .Bulk waste can include all large items except the following. These materials will NOT be collected.

refrigerators or appliances that contain hazardous waste (refrigerant/freon);
hazardous materials such as paints, solvents, chemicals, etc.;
building materials or demolition debris;
roofing, soil, rocks, concrete, and stumps.

Item to remember: Yard and vegetative debris will be collected. However, it must be bagged or tied in bundles of four (4) foot lengths or less with each bundle weighing no more than 50 pounds, otherwise it will not be picked up.

The Town of Duck will be considering zoning regulations for wind turbines, solar panels, and other forms of renewable energy in the coming months. To help gauge the opinions of our property owners, residents, businesses, and visitors, the Town is conducting a survey to gauge public opinion on renewable energy. Town of Duck Announces 2009 Events Schedule

Duck, NC – The Town of Duck’s 2009 Summer Events series is back and better than ever! This year’s schedule offers evening concerts; exercises classes on the Town Green; morning musical theater; children’s story time; a newly added author discussion series; and of course, the Town’s annual Fourth of July Parade! All of the events, except for the parade, will take place at the Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road.

The events are free. Please remember to bring a blanket or lawn chair for events being held on the Town Green. Beach umbrellas or tents are NOT permitted within the Town Park. All events will be held outside. In the case of inclement weather or site unavailability, an activity may be cancelled or rescheduled. Any changes will be posted at the Town Park or on our web site and/or on the Town's events hotline. Additional events may also be added.

Duck’s Annual Fourth of July Parade – Friday, July 3 at 9:00 a.m.
Duck’s Fourth of July Parade will be held on Friday, July 3 at 9:00 a.m., with an after-event following at the Duck Town Park featuring music by
Ruth Wyand & Friends. PLEASE NOTE that the parade is being held on Friday, July 3 which is the designated legal holiday so as not to conflict with weekend summer traffic. The one-mile parade route is the same annually and begins at Scarborough Lane and continues down Ocean Way and then Christopher Drive. Town of Duck’s Summer Music Series
This popular evening concert series returns for its third season. For six weeks, local musical groups will take the stage at the Duck Town Park Gazebo. The concerts are from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. and are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from June 30 through August 6. The current schedule of performances is:

Morning Exercise Classes
For 2009, three morning exercise classes are being offered. These classes will run from April to mid October.

Mondays – Basic Yoga/Deep Stretch will be held from April 6 through October 12. This class will be led by an instructor from
Outer Banks Yoga and Pilates.

Tuesdays – Tai Chi will be held from April 7 through October 13 and will be led by Julia Daniel of
Outer Banks Yoga and Pilates.

Thursdays – “Fit and Flexible,” a beginning Pilates class, will be held from April 2 through October 15 and will be taught by Patti Waller of
Turning Point Fitness.

All classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and will be held on the Town Green. Please bring a yoga/Pilates mat or a towel and water if you plan to participate in the Basic Yoga or Pilates class.




Author Discussion Series
New for 2009, is an Author Discussion Series coordinated by the Town in conjunction with
Duck’s Cottage Book Store. This six-week series will be held on Fridays from July 10 through August 14 at 10 a.m. at the Town Picnic Shelter and will feature regional and local authors who focus on Outer Banks topics including history, food, and culture. Following the discussion, attendees are invited back to Duck’s Cottage for author signings. The schedule of authors who will be featured at the weekly discussions will be announced soon.


Town of Duck Morning Theater and Music Series
The cast from The
Lost Colony Musical Theater will be in Duck on Wednesdays from July 8 through August 12 presenting music and shows from its repertoire. Children’s Story Time
Bring the children for Story Time sponsored by Duck’s two book stores:
Duck’s Cottage and Island Book Store. Story Time will be held in the Town’s Picnic Shelter at 10 a.m. on Thursdays beginning July 2 and continuing through Thursday, August 6. Story Time is geared to children between the ages of 3 and 7.


Duck’s Second Annual Jazz Festival
Duck’s Third Annual Jazz Festival, featuring saxophonist
Kim Waters and his band, will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 11 a.m. to dusk on the Town Green. Plan to join us for this popular event!
